Compare gas and electricity deals in the UK

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Compare fixed energy tariffs against the Ofgem price cap for your region. We show unit rates and standing charges side by side, so you can see whether a fixed deal really saves you money.

Understanding your energy bill

Your bill has two parts: the unit rate (pence per kWh you use) and the standing charge (pence per day, whatever you use). Low users should focus on standing charges; high users on unit rates.

For October–December 2026 the Ofgem cap is 26.32p/kWh plus 54.83p a day for electricity, and 7.97p/kWh plus 29.68p a day for gas (direct debit, GB average).

Fixed vs variable tariffs

A variable (standard) tariff moves each quarter with the price cap. A fixed tariff locks your unit rate and standing charge for 12 to 24 months — protecting you if prices rise, but you may pay an exit fee to leave early.

Prices vary by region

Great Britain has 14 electricity regions, each with different rates. Our comparison shows the benchmark for every region so you can compare like with like.

Frequently asked questions

What is the energy price cap?

Ofgem sets a maximum unit rate and standing charge for standard variable tariffs each quarter. It caps rates, not your total bill.

Is a fixed energy deal worth it?

It can be if the fixed rates are below the price cap or you value certainty. Compare the unit rate and standing charge with the cap for your region.

Will switching energy supplier cut off my supply?

No. Your gas and electricity keep flowing through the same pipes and wires; only the company billing you changes.

Are there exit fees?

Many fixed tariffs charge an exit fee per fuel. You can usually switch without a fee in the last 49 days of a fixed deal.

Why do I need my postcode?

Rates depend on your region and meter type, so suppliers need your postcode to give an exact quote.
