Supermarket Loyalty Cards Compared

Supermarket loyalty schemes no longer all mean “collect points”. Some cut prices at the till, some give personal coupons, and some build a pot of vouchers. Here’s how the five main schemes work.

Tesco Clubcard

Scan Clubcard or the Tesco app for Clubcard Prices on selected items, collect points and turn them into vouchers. Clubcard Plus is a separate paid add-on with 10% off groceries in store twice a month.

Nectar

Nectar Prices are lower prices on selected items for Nectar members, in supermarkets and online (not in Sainsbury’s Local). Your Nectar Prices are up to 10 personalised discounts a week that you unlock in the Nectar app.

Asda Rewards

Earn “Asda Pounds” into a Cashpot in the Asda Rewards app, for example by completing Missions, then convert them into vouchers for shopping in store or online. Not available in selected Asda Express stores.

Morrisons More

Scan your More Card for More Card Prices and More Points on selected products; 5,000 points become a £5 “Fiver” to spend. You also get personalised offers in the app, online or on till coupons.

Lidl Plus

A free rewards app (18+, mobile number and email needed) with personal coupons, weekly app offers, Lidl Plus points, digital receipts and partner offers. Scan the app at the till.

Points, member prices and coupons are different

  • Member prices lower the price straight away, but only on selected items and only when you scan.
  • Points and Cashpots reward you later, once you reach a threshold or convert them into vouchers.
  • Personalised coupons are chosen for your account and may not match what a friend sees.

Terms, expiry rules and offers change. Read the scheme’s own terms before you rely on a reward. Aldi’s official app page doesn’t describe a points scheme — see Aldi vs Lidl.

Frequently asked questions

Which loyalty card gives the most back?

It depends on where you shop and what you buy. A scheme only helps at a shop you’d use anyway.

Can I join more than one scheme?

Yes, the schemes are separate and free to join, though Tesco’s Clubcard Plus is a paid add-on.

Do member prices apply online?

Clubcard Prices and Nectar Prices are offered online as well as in store; check the scheme page for exclusions such as Sainsbury’s Local.

Do points expire?

Rules differ. Asda’s terms explain when Cashpot value and vouchers expire; check each scheme’s terms.
