Mobile network comparison

Compare UK mobile networks, coverage and restrictions

The best network for you is the one that works at home, work and on your regular journeys at a suitable total cost. National coverage claims alone cannot tell you whether a particular SIM will work well indoors or during busy periods.

Check local coverage first

Use Ofcom's mobile coverage guidance and each network's coverage checker for your postcode and regular destinations. Compare indoor and outdoor predictions and 4G and 5G separately. Buildings, terrain, congestion and your device affect the result.

If a reliable connection is essential, test a rolling SIM before committing to a longer term. Check Wi-Fi calling support for your exact handset and plan, not only whether the brand advertises the feature.

EE, O2, Vodafone and Three: brands and networks

EE and O2 provide their own coverage checkers. Other SIM brands use host networks; our provider directory and offer table record the network behind each listed plan. Sharing a host does not guarantee identical features, speed tiers or customer service.

Vodafone UK and Three UK merged on 31 May 2025 into VodafoneThree, while Vodafone and Three remain consumer-facing brands. Network sharing is developing, so check each brand's current local coverage and device requirements rather than treating historical coverage maps as permanent.

Compare the features you actually use

5G access: confirm the plan, handset and local availability. Speed caps: read the tariff's maximum speed rather than assuming all data plans run at the same rate. Wi-Fi calling and eSIM: check the supported device list and activation process.

Roaming: check destinations, daily charges and fair-use limits. Tethering: confirm device and hotspot rules. International calls: these are different from roaming and may cost extra. Spending controls: ask which out-of-bundle charges a cap covers.

Choose a provider without invented rankings

Compare coverage, allowance, term, support and full cost together. We do not award a 'best network' score based on brand recognition or claim national performance measurements we have not checked.

Open the linked coverage pages, shortlist suitable plans and keep the final contract summary. A cheap plan is poor value if it cannot connect where you rely on it.

Frequently asked questions

Which UK network has the best coverage?

There is no single answer for every address. Check local indoor and outdoor predictions and test reception where possible.

Are Vodafone and Three now the same company?

Their UK merger completed on 31 May 2025, creating VodafoneThree. Vodafone and Three remain consumer-facing brands with their own products and terms.

Does a budget SIM have the same features as its host?

Not necessarily. Check speed tiers, roaming, Wi-Fi calling, eSIM and support for the particular tariff.

Does 5G guarantee faster service?

No. Actual speed depends on coverage, congestion, device compatibility and plan restrictions.

Can I test coverage before a long contract?

A short rolling or prepaid plan can help you test reception. Check its payment and cancellation terms.
