What broadband speed do I need?

Tell us what everyone in your home does online at the busiest time, and we'll suggest a speed.

At your busiest time, how many people are doing each of these at once?

About 30 Mbps

Your busiest moment uses roughly 10 Mbps. We add 50% spare so things stay smooth, then round up to a common package speed.

What the speeds mean

Up to 30 Mbps suits one or two people browsing and watching HD. Around 67 Mbps suits a busy family. 150 Mbps and above suits lots of 4K streaming, gaming and home working. Ofcom says 10 Mbps download is the minimum for decent broadband.

Check before you buy

Ask the provider for the minimum guaranteed speed at your address. Under Ofcom's speeds code, most providers must give you one, and let you leave without a fee if they can't fix speeds that fall below it.

Results are estimates to help you decide. Your calculations stay on your device — we don't save them.
