Save money on your broadband

Broadband prices often jump when your deal ends. A few simple checks can save you a lot each year.
3 quick wins
- Find your contract end date in your account or on your bill.
- If you're out of contract, call your provider and ask for a better price.
- Ask about social tariffs if you get Universal Credit or other benefits.
Pick the right speed
- 1–2 people browsing and streaming: around 30–70Mbps is usually enough.
- Busy homes with gaming, 4K streaming and home working: 100Mbps or more.
- Don't pay extra for speed you won't notice.
Switching is easy
- Most switches are led by your new provider — you don't need to call the old one.
- Check availability and speed with your postcode before you order.
- Compare the total cost over the whole contract, including set-up fees.
Do you need a landline?
- Many homes never use their home phone — broadband-only deals can be cheaper.
- If you do need calls, check whether a mobile plan already covers them.
Cut the extras
- Review TV packages and add-ons — remove channels you don't watch.
- Use your own router only if your provider allows it and it saves money.
- Check for yearly price rises written into the contract.
Mistakes to avoid
- Letting your deal roll onto a higher out-of-contract price.
- Signing up without checking the speed for your address.
- Paying for a landline you never use.
